The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain is likely to continue across Kerala over the next few days. A yellow alert has been issued for six districts today, including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur.
Kerala Rain Alert Today in Six Districts
The weather department has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in these districts. Rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours is classified as heavy rainfall. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow updates from the authorities.
The continuing rain is linked to a low-pressure system that developed over West Bengal, Bangladesh and the northwest Bay of Bengal. The system has strengthened into an extreme low-pressure area along the West Bengal coast. Due to its influence, Kerala is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall until August 17.
Special Advisory for Fishermen Across the Coastline
Meanwhile, a special warning has been issued for fishermen because of the possibility of strong winds and rough sea conditions along several coastal areas. Winds of 45 to 55 kmph, occasionally reaching 65 kmph, are expected along the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh, as well as nearby areas of the northwest and northeast Bay of Bengal.
Winds of 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph, are also likely along the north and south Andhra Pradesh coasts, parts of the central and west-central Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman Sea.
Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into these waters as the sea is expected to remain very rough to extremely rough in several areas. People living in coastal regions are also advised to stay alert and follow official weather warnings.
