The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Kerala as the southwest monsoon remains active and weather systems continue to develop over the region. The department has issued district-wise alerts, warning people to remain cautious as heavy to very heavy rain is likely in different parts of the state.
Kerala Rain Alert on 8 August; 7 Districts are Under Orange Alert
For August 8, seven districts in Kerala have been placed under an orange alert. The districts are Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. An orange alert indicates the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall and advises residents and authorities to take necessary precautions.
The remaining districts in the state have been placed under a yellow alert, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. People in these areas have also been advised to remain alert, particularly in areas that are vulnerable to waterlogging, flooding and landslides.
The IMD has stated that rainy conditions are likely to continue across Kerala over the next few days. The intensity of rainfall may vary from one area to another. Alert levels could also be changed based on the movement of weather systems and the amount of rainfall received in different districts.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
During periods of heavy rain, residents are advised to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel through areas affected by flooding or landslides. People should also follow instructions issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies.
