Kanpur is all set to welcome a major development in its transport system. The second phase of the Kanpur Metro is ready for launch, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the city on April 24 to flag off this new phase. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also be present at the event. This marks an important step forward for Kanpur's public transport system and promises better travel for its people.

New Underground Stations in the City
A key part of this phase is the addition of five new underground metro stations. These include Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central. These stations will help commuters move quickly and easily across busy parts of the city. Built as part of the first corridor's second phase, these underground stations allow the metro to travel through tunnels under the city, offering a faster and smoother journey.
Second Phase to Connect More Areas
This new phase will also see the addition of three new metro trains. These will connect IIT Kanpur to Motijheel, where there are already six operational stations. Once the new section is complete, the line will have a total of nine stations. The aim is to reduce travel time and make commuting across the city more comfortable and convenient for everyone.
Detailed Plans for Future Metro Growth
Kanpur Metro's Managing Director has submitted an action plan to top city officials. This plan focuses on growing the metro network in two phases. Over the next ten years, the metro will cover a total of 107.3 kilometers through seven different corridors. The first phase includes three corridors covering 44 kilometers by 2030, and the second phase will add four more corridors of 31 kilometers by 2035.
Currently, two metro corridors are already under construction. One runs for 23.8 kilometers from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta, and the other for 8.4 kilometers from CSA to Barra Eight. These routes include both elevated tracks and underground paths.
Excitement Grows as City Prepares for PM's Visit
Preparations are in full swing for Prime Minister Modi's visit. The city is busy with the setup of welcome banners and leaflets that provide details about the metro. Officials are also working to get the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Security by April 10. These arrangements show how important this event is for the city and its people.
There is also a chance that Prime Minister Modi may give a public address in Kanpur. The final location for this event has not been decided yet. His visit is expected to attract large crowds and draw attention to the metro's importance in improving public transport.
More Plans to Improve Travel in and Around Kanpur
Apart from the metro expansion, other development projects are also being planned to improve travel. One such project is a new flyover at Pari Chowk-Kasna, which will help reduce travel time. Another major project is the Greenfield highway between Ghazipur and Chandauli, aimed at reducing traffic problems.
In addition to these efforts, a 32.4-kilometer-long metro line is being planned from Motijheel to Naubasta and CSA University to Barra 8. This project is part of a bigger plan called Developed India 2047. The idea is to connect more parts of the city and offer better travel options to everyone.
Metro Growth to Be Part of Kanpur's New Master Plan
The action plan for metro expansion will also be included in Kanpur's new city master plan. This will help city planners make better decisions about roads, transport, and infrastructure. Discussions are already happening to make sure that metro plans fit well with future city growth.
The metro expansion is not just limited to Kanpur. Other cities in Uttar Pradesh are also seeing similar plans. In Lucknow, nine new metro corridors will be built, covering 139.4 kilometers. Agra is also preparing for its own metro expansion, showing a big push by the state to improve travel options for everyone.
