Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the second phase of the Jaipur Metro on Saturday, marking the start of a major five-year construction project. The new phase is expected to improve transport and connectivity along Tonk Road and nearby areas, making travel easier for thousands of commuters.

Jaipur Metro Project into Seven Packages
According to Jaipur Metro officials, the project has been divided into seven packages. Four packages are for civil construction, while the remaining three cover electrical and other technical works. Tenders for all four civil packages have already been issued. One contract has been awarded, while the other three are expected to be finalised in the coming months. Construction on all four civil packages is scheduled to begin together in September.
The first package, costing about ₹918 crore, includes a 12-km elevated metro corridor from Prahladpura in Sitapura to Pinjrapole Gaushala. This section will have 12 metro stations. The second package, worth around ₹1,160 crore, involves building a 3.12-km underground corridor with two stations. One station will be located near Sanganer Police Station and the other inside the Jaipur Airport premises.
The third package is estimated to cost ₹1,392 crore and includes an 11.7-km elevated corridor from the B2B Bypass Cloverleaf Junction to Khasa Kothi. It will have 12 stations. The fourth package, valued at ₹1,331 crore, will cover a 14.5-km elevated stretch from Khasa Kothi to Todi Mod and include another 12 stations.
Measures Taken to Reduce Congestion
To reduce traffic problems during construction, Jaipur Traffic Police have prepared a plan to develop the Sitapura-Ajmeri Gate section of Tonk Road as a Model Corridor. Authorities will first remove illegal encroachments and unauthorised parking along the road and footpaths to create more space for vehicles.
The traffic police have also installed additional CCTV cameras and increased enforcement against traffic rule violations. Officials said road diversions will be introduced only when required and after consultation with Jaipur Metro authorities. Traffic DCP Yogesh Goyal said both departments will jointly decide on lane closures and alternate routes. Senior officials from the traffic police and Jaipur Metro will also meet every Monday to review construction progress, solve traffic issues, and ensure smooth movement of vehicles throughout the project.
