Heard of a silent disco? Yes, almost we all have. But how about a 'Silent Airport'? Yes, the Capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur is all set to make its Jaipur International Airport (JIA) go silent from 1st February 2023.
Passengers will no longer hear the sound or noise of boarding announcements, security check-in, or any other kind of noise that you usually hear at the airport around you.
According to reports, this won't cause any problems for travelers because they will receive all crucial updates on their own mobile numbers in addition to receiving all pertinent information updated on digital screens relating to boarding. To inform travellers of critical updates, the airport will also install technology-based and automated PA systems.
According to an official from Jaipur International Airport, numerous screens have been put throughout the airport to broadcast flight information for visitors, ensuring that they don't miss any important announcements.
The display screens, he continued, had been strategically placed both inside and outside the airport, in the security holding area, and the check-in halls. In other words, in addition to receiving all essential messages on digital displays, passengers will also receive them on their smartphones.
All airlines now use SMS and LED screens to alert passengers about time changes, baggage delivery belts, and other essential information, ensuring that no important information of any kind is overlooked by the passengers.
Beginning on February 1, 2023, the Jaipur international airport will become a silent airport. However, reports do note that emergency-related announcements would still be made via public address systems. And this announcement will be only for certain emergencies, passenger's safety, and covid protocol if needed.
What is a Silent airport?
Silent airports are those which doesn't produce any noise which can contribute to noise pollution like recurring boarding announcements, security check-in announcements, and luggage belt announcements. Rather they prefer to share this information with passengers on their mobile phones or multiple screens located at the airport so that passengers don't miss any important updates.
Overall, silent airports will be less stressful and give you a sense of peace while you are at the airport which is quiet and you don't need to hear unnecessary information not relevant to you. But you have to be attentive to notifications about your travel o your smartphones or seeing it on screens.
The issues with conventional airports, notably in terms of noise pollution, could be solved creatively with the concept of the silent airport as they are a viable answer for the future of aviation even though there are still obstacles to be addressed.
