On the historic occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the women of Indore will be the first to experience a new era of travel. Madhya Pradesh is ready to launch its first metro service, starting in Indore. The inaugural ride of the Indore Metro will take place on May 31, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch it virtually from Bhopal during his visit to the Maha Mahila Sammelan. To celebrate this major step, metro rides will be free for everyone during the first week.

Special Priority for Women on First Ride
The first journey of the Indore Metro will be even more special, as it will be dedicated to women. Women working in different fields, including employees of companies like TCS and Infosys, as well as sweepers and other working women, will be given the chance to ride first. This Super Priority Corridor for women is a way to honor their hard work and contributions to the city. It shows the metro's focus on making travel safe, easy, and respectful for female passengers.
Metro Stations Named After Brave Women
The 5.9-kilometer stretch of the metro has five stations, and each station has been named after a brave woman. One of the stations will be named "Sindoor," in honor of Operation Sindoor, a successful military operation by India against Pakistan. The other stations will be named after Devi Ahilya, Rani Durgavati, Avantika Bai, and Jhalkaribai. These names are a tribute to strong and inspiring women from history.
Urban Housing and Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya shared this information during his inspection of the metro station and depot. He also announced that a statue of Devi Ahilyabai will be installed at the Gandhi Nagar station. At the remaining stations, photos of the honored women will be displayed at first, and later statues will be added so that their stories can be remembered and passed on to future generations.
Big Plans for Indore Metro Expansion
The Indore Metro is only the beginning of a bigger plan. Minister Vijayvargiya said that there are efforts to expand the metro network to 60 to 70 kilometers across the city. One of the main goals is to connect Indore with Ujjain by metro before the Simhastha Fair. This new connection will help people travel easily and comfortably between the two cities during the large religious gathering.
A Step Forward for the City
The start of the Indore Metro marks a big step toward modern transportation in Madhya Pradesh. It promises to make daily travel faster, more comfortable, and better for everyone. The focus on women riders, the meaningful names of stations, and plans for future expansion make this project not just about transport, but about respect, history, and progress.
With this new metro service, Indore moves ahead into a better-connected and more inclusive future.
