India's High-Speed Rail Project Will Take You from Ahmedabad to Delhi in 3.5 Hours

Ahmedabad is set to embark on another groundbreaking high-speed rail venture, this time linking to Delhi, following the successful acquisition of a bullet train service to Mumbai.

India s High-Speed Rail Project

Cutting Travel Time Dramatically

The new project promises an average speed of 250km/hour on an elevated corridor, slashing the travel time between the two bustling cities from 12 hours to a mere 3.5 hours. This monumental leap in connectivity is poised to transform travel dynamics across the region.

Key Stations Along the Route

According to a finalized project report by the railways, the proposed train route will encompass crucial stations including Himmatnagar, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Rewari, and Manesar as per TOI reports. This strategic alignment ensures seamless connectivity and accessibility for passengers.

Boosting Connectivity and Tourism

The new Ahmedabad-Delhi bullet train forms part of the government's ambitious plan to introduce six new high-speed rail projects nationwide, aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting tourism. Spearheaded by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) since September 2020, the project now awaits final approval from the Centre.

Efficiency in Planning

Railway officials stress that the approximately 900km elevated corridor between Ahmedabad and Delhi will significantly reduce travel time by around nine hours. Aerial LiDAR surveys have been conducted to expedite the planning process, ensuring minimal disruption to existing infrastructure. The alignment of tracks with the existing railway network has been carefully chosen to minimize land acquisition and avoid prolonged legal battles often associated with such mega projects. The service will commence from Sabarmati station, equipped with a multimodal hub, and operate at a maximum speed of 350km per hour.

India s High-Speed Rail Project

A Technological Leap Forward

In a major upgrade towards a technologically efficient and logistically faster India, the Indian Railways has initiated a development plan to develop an indigenous bullet train capable of moving at a very high speed of 250 kilometres per hour (kmph). If successfully operated, the new bullet train is expected to outpace all existing trains currently operating in India by a significant margin, as reported by the Economic Times. Currently, India relies on Japanese technology for the bullet trains (currently under construction) expected to connect Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Notably, the Shinkansen E5 series bullet trains, deployed in Ahmedabad and Mumbai, are among the finest technologies globally but can only reach speeds of up to 320 kmph.

For the uninitiated, the National High-Speed Rail Corp. Ltd. (NHSRCL), responsible for implementing India's first bullet train project, recently announced that 300 km of pier work for the project is complete and the land acquisition process for the entire 508 km stretch was finalized in January next year.

Anticipated Launch

While the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train service is slated to begin by July 2026, all eyes are now eagerly awaiting the imminent launch of the Ahmedabad-Delhi bullet train. This revolutionary mode of transportation is poised to transform travel between these two major cities, offering unprecedented speed, efficiency, and comfort to passengers.
