Now Your Goods Can Be More Safe With Indian Railways, Know How?

A top official revealed on Tuesday that the Railways will soon implement an "OTP-based Digital Locking System" to prevent theft on board its freight & parcel trains running on a daily basis.

IRCTC is again here with a piece of good news regarding making a solid arrangement for the goods or cargo that is being transported daily through Indian railways. A top official revealed on Tuesday that the Railways will soon implement an "OTP-based Digital Locking System" to prevent theft on board its freight & parcel trains running on a daily basis.

This technology, which is often used by trucks, has a smart lock with GPS capability that allows real-time tracking of the vehicle to reduce theft and pilferage. Officials have stated that the system will only rely on a secure One Time Password (OTP), which will be used to open and close carriages.

How the OTP-based lock system will work?

Over the course of the journey, the goods will not be available. It will be opened with an OTP and shut using another, with no intervening steps. All we do now is seal the trains as well as make sure the seal is intact at every station. This will significantly lessen problems while the train is running, an official remarked.

IRCTC OTP

He claimed that an official of the railways will receive the OTP at each stop when loading or unloading needs to be done in order to ensure the system operates properly. The official described the procedure, stating that an OTP is delivered to the mobile number of the affected person when the lock is closed.

After arriving at the specified location, the driver must press the lock's button to verify the position. When the driver's OTP is validated, an extra OTP is sent to the driver's mobile number in order to unlock the lock.

Moreover, the train's locations will be monitored. An alarm message will be sent out to the official's mobile phone number in the event of a collision or door tampering. Also, the change will reduce property theft and increase freight earnings.

IRCTC OTP

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested 11,268 offenders and recovered stolen railroad property worth INR 7.37 Crores so far, this fiscal year till January 25, 2023. Following the terms of the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act of 1966, the force is authorized to handle incidents of criminal damage to railway property.
