Indian Railways has announced that it will operate 138 special trains across nine railway zones to handle the heavy rush of passengers during the Christmas and New Year season. These special services are being arranged to make travel easier and smoother for people planning to visit their families or go

on holiday at the end of the year.
Planning of Festive Trips
According to the Ministry of Railways, a total of 650 special train trips have been planned and approved for this festive period. Out of these, 244 trips have already been officially notified, and more announcements may follow in the coming days. The special trains will run on busy routes where passenger demand is usually very high during festivals.
Special Train Services
Among the different railway zones, Western Railway will operate the highest number of special trains, with 26 services planned. South Central Railway will also run 26 special trains to cater to increased demand. Central Railway has announced 18 special trains, while South East Central Railway will operate 12 special services during this period. Other railway zones will also run special trains as needed to manage crowding and ensure smooth travel.
How Will the Special Trains Help?
The Ministry of Railways stated that these special trains are being introduced to provide extra seats and better travel options for passengers. By adding more trains, Indian Railways aims to reduce overcrowding on regular services and improve comfort for travellers. This move is expected to help passengers plan their journeys more easily and avoid last-minute problems.
Thus, the special train services will make it more convenient for people to travel during Christmas and the New Year 2026. Indian Railways hopes that the additional trains will allow passengers to enjoy the festive season without stress, delays, or travel-related difficulties.
