Indian Railways First Bharat Gaurav Tourist train Flagged Off

Indian Railways launched its first "Bharat Gaurav" train to run on the broad gauge track between Coimbatore and Shirdi. The train, which will have a maximum speed of 110 km per hour, is being flagged off. The inaugural run of the train will be flagged off by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal at Coimbatore station.

With this initiative, the Southern Railway turn out to be the first zone in Indian railways to get the primary registered service provider under the scheme, "Bharat Gaurav", the Ministry of Railways announced, adding that 1100 passengers took the first roundtrip service from Coimbatore to Shirdi.

This is India's first private train run under the Bharath Gaurav scheme to encourage domestic tourism. The train is functioned by South Star Rail, a Coimbatore-based private rail service operator.

The train will have 16 coaches and is expected to cover the distance between Coimbatore-Shirdi in about 12 hours. It will carry more than 1,200 passengers daily, said an official statement from Indian Railways.

On its onward journey, the train will stop at Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Yelahanka, Dharmavaram, Mantralayam Road, and Wadi. Moreover, as the stoppage at Mantralayam Road is five-hour-long, tourists can visit the famous Mantralayam Temple, which is located in Andhra Pradesh.

For its return journey, the train will stop only at Wadi, Dharmavaram, Yelahanka, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur. What is the Bharat Gaurav scheme?
