India’s First Underwater Metro Resumes Service on Kolkata’s Green Line

Kolkata Metro has announced that train services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch of the Green Line will restart on Ram Navami. This decision comes after several weeks of suspension since February, during which the authorities were conducting tests on the computerized signaling system. These tests were important to make sure the Green Line is safe and fully ready for passengers.

Kolkata s Green Line Back on Track

Green Line Services to Resume on Sunday

The metro services on this stretch will start again on Sunday, with the first train beginning at 2:15 pm and the last trains leaving the terminal stations at 9:45 pm. The decision to restart the services was made recently, although metro officials did not share the specific reasons behind the timing of the announcement.

The Green Line is a major part of Kolkata's metro network. Currently, it is running in two separate parts - Howrah Maidan to Esplanade and Sealdah to Sector V. These two parts are yet to be fully connected. The delay in joining the two sections is mainly due to technical issues, including subsidence problems near the Esplanade-Sealdah stretch.

Important Role of the Green Line in City Connectivity

The Green Line is important for improving public transport across Kolkata. It connects Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V, two major areas of the city. Once fully completed, the Green Line will make commuting much easier for thousands of daily passengers.

The line also includes some of the most unique features in the country. It has India's first underwater metro tunnel and the country's deepest metro station. These features make the Green Line not just useful but also special in India's metro history.

Kolkata Metro Adopts New Technology for Passengers

Kolkata Metro has been working on improving the overall travel experience for passengers. Recently, a new paper QR-based multiple ticketing system was introduced on the Purple Line. This system is already available on the Blue, Green, and Orange Lines and is designed to make ticketing easier and faster. These efforts show how Kolkata Metro is using technology to improve services and make travel more convenient.

The restart of Green Line services between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade on Ram Navami is a positive step towards better city connectivity. With its advanced features and technological upgrades, Kolkata Metro continues to play an important role in making public transport easier, safer, and more efficient for the people of Kolkata.
