The recent meteorological observations indicate minimum temperatures hovering between 4°C and 8°C across most parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and some areas in Uttar Pradesh, northwest Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and west Bihar.

- Rainfall and Thunderstorm:

Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is anticipated over Lakshadweep on December 20, 2023, gradually decreasing thereafter.

- Dense Fog Warning:

Dense fog is expected in isolated pockets over Punjab and Haryana for the next five days, northwest Uttar Pradesh for the next two days, and Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during the morning hours of December 20, 2023.

- Cold Wave Conditions:

Isolated pockets in Punjab are likely to experience cold wave conditions on December 20, 2023.

IMD Forecast:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released its forecast, highlighting the likelihood of dense fog in isolated pockets over Punjab and Haryana in the upcoming five days. Additionally, dense fog is predicted over northwest Uttar Pradesh for the next three days and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the morning hours of December 20.

Challenges in Rain-Hit Tamil Nadu:

While North India grapples with cold waves and dense fog, the southern state of Tamil Nadu is dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung. Chennai and its suburbs witnessed unprecedented heavy rains, prompting Chief Minister MK Stalin to seek financial assistance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Stalin has requested Rs 2,000 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to aid in the state's recovery efforts, including support for livelihoods and the repair of public infrastructure affected by the recent flooding in the southern districts.
