A cyclone that formed over the Bay of Bengal is moving toward the Andhra Pradesh coast, leading to increased rainfall in Kerala over the next two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the system, which was a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, strengthened into a cyclonic

storm named Montha on Sunday night. The storm was located about 640 km east-southeast of Chennai, 710 km southeast of Kakinada, 740 km west of Port Blair, 740 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, and 860 km south of Gopalpur in Odisha.
Cyclonic Storm to Hit Andhra Pradesh
According to the IMD, Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening or night (October 28, 2025). It is likely to hit the coast as a severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds between 90 and 100 kmph, and gusts up to 110 kmph.
Kerala to Experience Rainfall
Due to the cyclone's influence, Kerala is expected to experience heavy rainfall on Monday. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. A yellow alert (warning of isolated heavy rain) has been issued for most other districts, except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.
The cyclone is also expected to affect weather conditions in neighboring states as it approaches the coast. However, rainfall activity in Kerala is expected to reduce once the cyclone moves inland on Tuesday. After landfall, the system will weaken as it travels further into Andhra Pradesh, losing strength and wind intensity.
