IMD Issues Red Alert For Heavy Rains In Kerala, Karnataka, Goa; Heatwave In UP

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa, with an orange and yellow alert for Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, respectively. Monsoon is expected to advance in several states, bringing widespread rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for heavy rains in Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa on Saturday, June 22. This warning has put residents and authorities on high alert for potential flooding and disruptions. An orange alert is in place for Odisha, while Uttar Pradesh faces a yellow alert for heatwave conditions today.

In Delhi-NCR, light clouds and rain are expected on June 22. However, temperatures might rise to 44 degrees Celsius in the next few days. The IMD also predicts favourable conditions for the Southwest Monsoon to advance in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh by June 25.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings

Northeast India will see heavy showers over the next four days. West Bengal and Sikkim can expect significant rainfall on June 23 and 24. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will experience heavy rain on June 22. Bihar will have isolated heavy rainfall from June 22 to 25, with very heavy rain likely on June 24 and 25.

Odisha is set to experience heavy rainfall on June 22. Jharkhand will see heavy rain on June 24 and 25. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will have heavy rainfall from June 22 to 25. Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 22 to 25. Gujarat will experience heavy rainfall on June 22 and 23.

Regional Rainfall Alerts

Marathwada is expected to see heavy rainfall on June 23. Southeast Rajasthan will experience heavy rain on June 24 and 25. Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu will have heavy rains until June 25. Telangana will experience heavy rain on June 22.

From June 23 to June 25, coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada are likely to be drenched by heavy rains. On June 24, Dharwad, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Shimoga, Hassan, Kodagu, and Mysuru are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Heatwave Alert

The IMD has also warned of heatwaves in Uttar Pradesh until June 24 and in Jammu from June 23 to 25. As the impact of the Westerly Disturbance reduces in the coming days, temperatures in western UP are expected to rise with heatwave conditions persisting till June 24.

In the next two to three days, conditions seem favourable for the monsoon to cover eastern UP. For Lucknow, light rain is predicted from June 23 with an increase in intensity from June 24.

Residents in affected areas should stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during this period of extreme weather conditions.
