IMD Issues Cyclonic Alert for Tamil Nadu: Heavy Rainfall Expected

Heavy downpours are flagged in isolated places from November 14 to November 17. Strong winds and adverse weather conditions are expected over South East Bay of Bengal, Central West Bay of Bengal, and the South Bay of Bengal.

The department has also flagged the potential for heavy downpours in isolated places from November 14 to November 17.

Warnings by Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has accentuated the possibility of heavy rains in certain districts, advising locals to stay alert. As weather conditions develop, authorities are on their toes to implement precautionary measures, ensuring public safety. In light of the approaching cyclone, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a holiday for all educational establishments, including professional colleges, in the Mayiladuthurai District on November 14.

Forecast for the Upcoming Days

On 14-11-2023, there is a possibility of strong winds and adverse weather over South East Bay of Bengal adjoining the Andaman Sea and Sri Lankan coast, with speeds ranging from 40 to 45 mph, and occasionally peaking up to 55 mph. On 15-11-2023, the South East Bay of Bengal and the central Bay of Bengal may witness similar conditions.

The subsequent days will see the weather conditions persisting. On 16-11-2023, central West Bay of Bengal, adjoining Central East Bay of Bengal, and the South Bay of Bengal are expected to experience strong winds and bad weather, with speed surging from 45 to 55 mph and occasionally reaching up to 65 mph. The same is expected over the Central West Bay of Bengal on 17-11-2023.
