Andhra Pradesh is likely to play a major role in South India's future bullet train network after the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) gave a positive response to the state's proposal to route the Hyderabad-Amaravati-Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor through Amaravati.
Bullet Train Corridor
The proposed high-speed rail corridor will cover about 760 km across three states. Andhra Pradesh will have the longest stretch at 518.54 km, followed by Telangana with 180.32 km and Tamil Nadu with 61.23 km. The project includes 18 proposed bullet train stations along the route. Andhra Pradesh will have the highest number of stations, with nine planned stops. These include Amaravati, Guntur, Nellore, and Tirupati, making the state the most important section of the corridor.
Bullet Train between Chittoor and Tirupati
NHSRCL is also considering a separate 65-km high-speed rail link between Chittoor and Tirupati. The corporation has approved the final location survey and preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Once completed, the report will be submitted to the Union Railway Ministry for final approval. The proposed Chittoor-Tirupati link will connect two major bullet train corridors. This will allow passengers to travel directly by high-speed train from Bengaluru to Amaravati through Chittoor and Tirupati without changing trains.
Chittoor is already an important station on the proposed 306-km Chennai-Bengaluru High Speed Rail Corridor. This route will pass through Tamil Nadu (133 km), Karnataka (101 km), and Andhra Pradesh (72 km) and will have seven stations across the three states.
The new bullet train network is expected to benefit pilgrims travelling to Tirumala. The new system will connect Hyderabad, Amaravati, Chennai, and Bengaluru through an integrated bullet train network, significantly improving regional connectivity and reducing travel time between major cities. Every year, millions of devotees visit the famous temple, and the high-speed rail corridors are expected to provide much faster and more convenient travel.
