Himachal Pradesh is experiencing a beautiful winter scene as fresh snowfall attracts tourists to high-altitude regions like Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this snow cover will last for about two weeks, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the scenic beauty. The weather is expected to stay clear until March 26, allowing for smooth travel and outdoor activities. However, a new weather system will bring more changes soon.

Fresh Snowfall and Changing Weather
A fresh western disturbance is expected to arrive on March 24, bringing another round of light rain and snowfall in parts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu on March 26 and 27. This will lead to a gradual rise in temperature across the state.
- Minimum temperatures will increase by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next four to five days.
- Maximum temperatures are also expected to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius, leading to a transition towards warmer conditions.
For the next two days, there will be no major change in temperature, but after that, a noticeable rise will occur. As the heat increases, areas like Shimla and other hill stations may feel warmer, particularly in the lower regions of the state.
Rainfall Shortage in March
Himachal Pradesh has seen less rainfall than usual this March. The state was supposed to receive 79.9 mm of rain between March 1 and 21, but only 75.6 mm was recorded, which is 5% less than normal.
Different districts experienced different amounts of rainfall:
- Less rainfall: Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una.
- More rainfall than expected: Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla.
This uneven rainfall pattern affects both the weather and local activities, including agriculture and tourism.
Impact on Tourism and Travel
Tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh can enjoy the snowfall before temperatures start to rise. The clear weather until March 26 makes it a perfect time for sightseeing and outdoor adventures. However, travelers should be aware of the changing weather after March 24 and plan accordingly.
With warmer days ahead, visitors should prepare for both cold nights and warmer afternoons. Keeping an eye on the weather forecast will help tourists make the most of their trip while ensuring safety in the mountains.
As the weather shifts, Himachal Pradesh continues to offer breathtaking views and a magical winter experience before welcoming the warmth of spring.
