A recent cloudburst in the Taklech area of Rampur subdivision in Himachal Pradesh has caused significant disruption. The cloudburst resulted in severe flooding, washing away a 30-meter stretch of road and damaging important infrastructure. Thankfully, no loss of life has been reported so far, which is a relief considering the severity of the situation.

In response to this incident and the ongoing heavy rains, the local Meteorological Department has issued a 'yellow' alert for heavy rain in 10 districts of Himachal Pradesh until August 20. A 'yellow' alert means that people should be aware of the potential for severe weather and take necessary precautions to stay safe. It's important for residents and travelers in the area to stay informed and prepared.
The heavy rains have also led to the closure of 58 roads across the state, causing further inconvenience for the people living there and those traveling through the region. The authorities are actively working on rescue and relief operations to manage the situation and restore normalcy as quickly as possible. Additionally, the heavy rainfall has disrupted 31 power supply schemes and four water supply schemes, adding to the challenges faced by the people in the affected areas.
Since Thursday evening, various parts of Himachal Pradesh have recorded significant rainfall. Dalhousie received the highest rainfall at 62 mm, followed by Palampur with 56 mm. Other areas such as Kandaghat, Ghamroor, Nagrota Suriyan, Kangra, Guler, and Dharamshala also recorded notable amounts of rainfall.
This monsoon season has been particularly challenging for Himachal Pradesh. The state has experienced a rainfall deficit of 23 percent, with 397.9 mm of rain recorded against an average of 513.5 mm. This deficit has contributed to the current situation, making it more difficult for the state to handle the heavy rains and their aftermath.
The recent cloudburst and heavy rains have created a tough situation in Himachal Pradesh, especially in the Taklech area. While no lives have been lost, the damage to roads and infrastructure is significant. With the 'yellow' alert in place, it's crucial for everyone in the affected areas to stay cautious and follow the guidelines provided by the authorities to ensure their safety during this challenging time.
