The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven districts in Karnataka as heavy rain continues for the third straight day. The districts under red alert are Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan. Bengaluru is under an orange alert, warning of more severe rain in the coming days.

Flooding and Damage in Bengaluru
Bengaluru is facing serious flooding. Roads in areas like Silk Board Junction, Hosur Road, and BTM Layout are filled with water. Vehicles are stuck, and daily life has been disturbed. The city has also seen thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, causing damage to homes and traffic problems.
So far, five people have died due to rain-related accidents across Karnataka. In Bengaluru, three people have lost their lives in the last 36 hours. One of the victims was a 63-year-old man named Manmoham Kamath. He was electrocuted while trying to remove water from his house in NS Palya near BTM 2nd Stage. This incident shows how dangerous the situation is.
Government Response and Political Issues
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar met with the families of those who died due to electrocution. Meanwhile, the state government has received criticism for not giving enough attention to the flood situation.
Opposition leaders have questioned the Congress party for holding a celebration in Vijayanagara district while people suffer. R Ashoka, Leader of the Opposition, said that instead of helping people during floods, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, went to Ballari to celebrate two years in government.

City's Steps to Handle the Flooding
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is working to help those affected by the floods. BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao held an emergency virtual meeting to respond to the crisis. He asked all zonal control rooms to stay alert and respond quickly to public complaints. He said that officers must act fast to fix civic issues.
Due to flooded roads and traffic problems, many IT companies in Bengaluru have asked their employees to work from home. Roads like the Outer Ring Road between KR Puram and Silk Board are badly affected. Office areas and tech parks are also facing water problems.

Weather Forecast and Warning
The IMD has also warned about a cyclonic circulation forming over the east-central Arabian Sea near the Karnataka coast. This system could turn into a low-pressure area by May 21, bringing even more rain. People are advised to stay alert and take precautions.
As Karnataka, especially Bengaluru, deals with this weather emergency, the main focus is on saving lives and helping those in need. The efforts of local authorities and the strength of the people will be important in facing this tough time.
