Gujarat has been experiencing heavy rains, leading to challenging conditions across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain due to a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea. Let's look at how different areas are coping with the downpours.

North Gujarat
In North Gujarat, the rain has been particularly intense. Prantij taluka recorded the highest rainfall with 165 mm. Heavy rains were also reported in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Kheda, Mahisagar, and Sabarkantha, causing widespread waterlogging. In Himmatnagar, an entire State Transport (ST) bus got submerged under a bridge, highlighting the severity of the situation. In Vadgam, Banaskantha, four and a half inches of rain fell in just two hours, leading to flooded roads.
The heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions. Many areas have experienced waterlogging, making it difficult for people to move around. The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in the coming days, urging residents to stay cautious.
Dang District
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently visited the Dang district to inaugurate the Saputara Megh Malhar Parva 2024. This event aims to promote local employment and tourism at Saputara, the state's only hill station. Despite the ongoing rains, the initiative is a positive step toward boosting the local economy and attracting visitors to the beautiful hill station.
Surat Rains
Surat has also been hit hard by the rains. The city received an average of 101 mm of rain within two hours, causing severe waterlogging. The rising water levels in creeks have disrupted vehicular movement and left several areas inundated. The situation was further complicated when the city's Deputy Mayor was seen being carried by a fire official during a flood visit, citing leg pain. This incident drew criticism and highlighted the challenging conditions faced by officials and residents alike.

Last week, the Purna River swelled, affecting over 1.5 lakh people in Navsari district. The IMD attributes the heavy rains in Gujarat to the cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining Saurashtra region.
Overall Situation
The monsoon season has brought significant challenges to Gujarat. Since its onset, over 65 lives have been lost, and thousands have been stranded due to the torrential rains. The state continues to face heavy rainfall, with more expected in the coming days.
The government and local authorities are working to manage the situation, but residents are urged to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel. The heavy rains have highlighted the need for robust infrastructure and preparedness to handle such weather events.
