Haryana Chief Minister Announces India's First Disneyland-Style Theme Park In Manesar

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has unveiled plans for India's first Disneyland-style theme park in Manesar, near Delhi. This ambitious project aims to elevate the National Capital Region (NCR) to the ranks of global destinations like Paris and Tokyo. The 500-acre park will be strategically located along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway and Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor.

The proposed theme park is expected to significantly impact Haryana's economy and culture. It is anticipated to create numerous jobs, enhance infrastructure, and stimulate growth in the hospitality and real estate sectors. "This entertainment hub will bring economic, cultural, and social benefits not only to Haryana but to the entire country," stated Saini after discussions with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Project Location and Connectivity

The chosen site for the theme park is close to Gurugram's corporate hubs and the forthcoming 1,000-acre Global City project. Its strategic location offers excellent connectivity and market potential. Although groundwork has commenced, Disney has yet to release an official statement regarding its involvement in the project.

This announcement brings back memories of a similar initiative in 1989 by then-Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. His plan for a theme park over 28,000 acres was abandoned due to farmer protests. INLD leader Abhay Chautala criticised the BJP for hypocrisy, citing their past opposition: "Had the 1989 project materialised, Haryana would have been a tax-free state today," he remarked.

Political Reactions and Historical Context

BJP leaders defended the current scaled-down plan of 500 acres, emphasising that it respects farmers' rights. Party spokesperson Arun Yadav explained, "Our opposition in 1989 was against the forcible acquisition of thousands of acres of farmers' land. This project is limited to 500 acres and will be executed in a manner that respects farmers' interests while promoting development."

In addition to this major development, Haryana is enhancing its cultural offerings. The state plans to expand the Surajkund Crafts Mela by incorporating a Diwali Fair and Book Fair. Efforts are also underway to secure central funds for scaling up the International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra.

Cultural Initiatives and Future Prospects

Experts believe that combining heritage with modern attractions could redefine Haryana's global appeal. The state's initiatives aim not only at boosting tourism but also at preserving cultural heritage while embracing contemporary entertainment trends.

The ambitious theme park project represents a significant step towards transforming India's entertainment landscape. By positioning NCR alongside renowned global destinations, it promises economic growth and cultural enrichment for both Haryana and India as a whole.
