The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has proposed a new plan to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to design the Namo Bharat RRTS corridor on the Gurugram-Faridabad route in a manner that also allows metro trains to operate on the same tracks within Gurugram.

Metro Services
According to the proposal, both RRTS and metro services could share the same infrastructure for approximately 8 to 9 kilometres, from IFFCO Chowk to Sector 53. This stretch is important because the proposed RRTS route overlaps with HMRTC's planned metro corridor. By sharing infrastructure, the authorities aim to make better use of existing space, reduce unnecessary construction, and avoid building separate corridors for similar transport systems. It will also help improve connectivity between regional and city-level public transport in a busy part of Gurugram.
Meerut Project
HMRTC Managing Director Dr Chandar Shekhar Khare has asked NCRTC to consider a model similar to Meerut. In Meerut, Namo Bharat trains and metro services run on the same infrastructure, making travel smoother and more efficient for passengers. This shared system has already shown that such an arrangement can work well when planned carefully.
Gurugram-Faridabad Corridor
From a planning point of view, NCRTC is also focusing on strong interchange connections along the Gurugram-Faridabad corridor. The proposed RRTS route will connect with Gurugram's existing Rapid Metro along Golf Course Road. It will also link with the upcoming metro corridor planned between Golf Course Extension Road and Sector 5, making travel across the city more convenient.
However, the proposal will need final approval from the Union government. A detailed technical and operational review will be carried out to ensure that sharing infrastructure does not affect safety, capacity, or service quality for either the RRTS or metro system.
