The plan to start a Water Metro service on the Gomti River in Lucknow is moving forward. A feasibility study, which checks if the project is technically and economically doable, has been completed and presented to the Uttar Pradesh transport minister by a director from Kochi Metro.

Water-based Transport System
This study examined the feasibility of a water-based transportation system in Lucknow, including its technical requirements and its suitability for the local population. The minister stated that if this Water Metro is built, it could make travel easier within the city, attract more tourists, create jobs, and even offer fun activities for residents and visitors.
How Will the Process Go?
Officials are now planning the next steps. They will start by installing equipment that helps boats navigate the river safely. Then, they will study other important aspects, such as managing traffic, counting passengers, protecting the environment, assessing social impacts, and building terminals and docking points. They will also look into linking the river service with roads, adding ticket systems, electrical systems, charging stations for boats, fire safety, and air-conditioning. Based on all this, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared. After that, the cost will be calculated, and companies will be invited to bid for the work.
The transport minister has asked officials to speed up all these procedures so that the chief minister's plan for water transport can be completed quickly and benefit the public.
Officials are also considering similar Water Metro projects in other parts of Uttar Pradesh, including on the Yamuna between Agra and Mathura, at Ramgarh Tal in Gorakhpur, Surha Tal in Ballia, and on the Ganga.
