Golden Chariot Upgradation: IRCTC has introduced a latest version of Karnataka's Luxury Train

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced an upgraded version of the luxury tourist train Golden Chariot for the 2026-27 travel season. The train now comes with refreshed interiors, modern facilities, and specially designed travel packages covering popular destinations across South India.

Redesign of Golden Chariot

Operated by the tourism division of Indian Railways under the Ministry of Railways, the Golden Chariot has been redesigned to offer a mix of royal heritage-style travel and modern comfort. According to IRCTC, the train now features improved upholstery, polished wooden interiors, and upgraded cabins with comfortable linens and premium bathroom amenities. Passengers will also get Smart TVs and onboard Wi-Fi streaming services for entertainment during the journey.

Golden Chariot Upgraded Features

The train has been equipped with advanced safety features, including CCTV surveillance and modern fire alarm systems, to ensure passenger safety. The Golden Chariot can accommodate up to 80 passengers in 40 cabins. These include 13 double-bed cabins, 26 twin-bed cabins, and one specially designed cabin for differently abled travellers.

Passengers travelling on the luxury train can enjoy meals at two onboard restaurants, Ruchi and Nalapaka, which serve Indian as well as international dishes. The train also has the Madira lounge bar, offering a special beverage experience for guests.
Moreover, travellers can use the Arogya Spa and Fitness Centre, where Ayurvedic therapies, wellness treatments, and fitness facilities are available.

Golden Chariot Travel Itinerary

For the 2026-27 season, IRCTC has announced three travel itineraries covering heritage sites, wildlife destinations, and coastal attractions in South India. The six-day "Pride of Karnataka" tour includes Bengaluru, Bandipur, Mysuru, Halebidu, Chikkamagaluru, Hampi, and Goa. The "Jewels of South" route covers Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kanchipuram, Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur, Chettinad, Cochin, and Chertala. A shorter four-day "Glimpses of Karnataka" package includes Bengaluru, Bandipur, Mysuru, and Hampi.

Availability of Promotional Offers

IRCTC has also announced special promotional offers for selected journeys. Travellers can get a 20 percent discount on selected departures, depending on cabin availability. An additional 5% early-bird discount will be given to passengers making advance payments before June 30, 2026.

The package includes meals onboard, selected beverages, guided sightseeing tours, monument entry fees and meals at selected outside venues during the trip.
