The tender for the second phase of the Gurugram Metro project is expected to be released in mid-January. According to officials, this part of the project will be built as an elevated corridor, and the work will be carried out by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL).

Official's Statement
A senior GMRL official explained that the decision to choose an elevated route was taken after a detailed feasibility study. The study compared underground and elevated options, and the results showed that an elevated line would be more suitable. The official said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will soon be informed about the reasons behind this choice.
Officials also mentioned that the tender is almost ready and will soon be sent to the funding agency for final review. Once the agency approves it, the tender will be floated in January. They added that the underground option was rejected mainly because it would make the project almost twice as expensive.
GMRL officials pointed out that building an underground line from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub through Old Gurugram would require a new survey, which alone would take nearly a year. Additionally, the cost for underground construction would be far higher. Meanwhile, work on the casting yard for the elevated corridor is nearly complete, and production is expected to start by January.
Earlier, Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar also said that making Phase II underground would not be practical due to the huge expenses involved. He assured that with proper planning, the elevated construction can be done without causing much trouble to residents.
Gurugram Metro Phase II
Phase II of the Gurugram Metro will be around 14 km long and will pass through Old Gurugram. It will include stations in Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, the Railway Station, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Palam Vihar, Udyog Vihar Phase 4 and 5, and DLF Cyber City.
