All Hajj pilgrims are required to receive a COVID-19 booster shot in addition to a full COVID-19 vaccination with any of the licensed vaccines, according to a statement from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
The Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and is a pilgrimage that every adult Muslim is required to make at least once in their lifetime if they have the means. According to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health, worshippers from all nations are required to abide by this law along with other local preventative regulations while performing the Hajj.
The 2023 Hajj is taking place from June 27 to July 1, 2023. This event will highlight the most recent projects and initiatives launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The goal is to strengthen and maintain the services offered to pilgrims while boosting competition, enhancing the experience by removing obstacles and anticipating future developments in the Hajj & Umrah service system, all in accordance with the Kingdom's 2030 vision.
In order to be qualified to conduct the Hajj rituals, pilgrims must have their vaccinations completed at least 10 days prior to the beginning of the Hajj season, as stated by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Before a Hajj permit may be obtained, pilgrims must finish all essential vaccinations. Additionally, seasonal influenza & meningitis vaccinations are required for pilgrims.
The list of COVID-19 vaccines that Saudi Arabia has approved is provided below:
Pfizer/BioNTech (2 doses)
Oxford/AstraZeneca (2 doses)
Janssen (1 dose)
Moderna (2 doses)
Sinopharm (2 doses)
Sinovac (2 doses)
Covaxin (2 doses)
Sputnik V (2 doses)
Nuvaxovid (2 doses)
Covovax (2 doses)

Age and travel restrictions will be lifted, and Saudi Arabia earlier this year confirmed that the number of pilgrims traveling there will increase to pre-pandemic levels. An estimated 2.5 mn Muslims traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj in 2019.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, many restrictions have been put in place to stop COVID-19 from spreading. Due to these restrictions, pilgrims could only perform the Hajj if they were between the ages of 18 - 65. However, Saudi Arabia relaxed its COVID vaccination requirements for Umrah pilgrims coming from a few particular nations in December.
