The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has introduced a new bus service, Shivneri, to cater to the needs of weekly commuters traveling between Pune and Mumbai. This service is designed specifically for those who travel to Mumbai for work after spending weekends in Pune.

Efficient Route
The Shivneri bus utilizes the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, also known as the Atal Setu bridge. This bridge directly connects Navi Mumbai to Mumbai, significantly reducing travel time by bypassing the traffic congestion typically encountered on older routes. The positive feedback from the Pune to Dadar service, which also uses the Atal Setu, suggests that the Swargate to Mantralaya route will be similarly well-received.
Addressing Commuter Needs
The introduction of the Shivneri service comes in response to requests from Mantralaya employees who live in Pune. These employees faced difficulties booking tickets on existing routes and often experienced delays with other modes of transport such as trains. This new dedicated bus service addresses these concerns by providing a reliable and convenient travel option.
Additional Travel Options
The Shivneri service complements the existing daily Hirkani bus service on the same route, offering additional choices for weekly commuters. This twice-weekly schedule is specifically tailored to meet the needs of many employees who reside in Mumbai but work in Pune.
Convenient Timings
The Shivneri bus service operates directly from Pune's Swargate bus stand to Mantralaya, the state secretariat building in Mumbai. The bus departs from Swargate every Monday at 6:00 AM, offering a convenient option for commuters returning to Mumbai. For the return journey, the bus departs from Mantralaya on Fridays at 6:30 PM, facilitating travel back to Pune after the work week.
Discounted Fares
MSRTC offers discounted fares for the Shivneri bus service, making it an affordable option for many travelers. Women and senior citizens aged 65 to 75 receive a 50 percent discount on ticket prices, while senior citizens over 75 years old can travel for free on the service. This ensures that the service is accessible to a broader range of passengers.
Easy Booking
Passengers can conveniently book tickets through the MSRTC website or mobile app, eliminating the need to queue at bus stands. This online booking system streamlines the process, making it easier for commuters to secure their seats.
Enhancing Connectivity
The introduction of the Shivneri bus service represents a significant improvement in connectivity between Pune and Mumbai. It provides a direct route with convenient timings and discounted fares, enhancing the travel experience for weekly commuters. By addressing the specific needs of these travelers, the MSRTC aims to make the journey between Pune and Mumbai smoother and more efficient.
The launch of the Shivneri bus service by MSRTC is a welcome addition for weekly commuters traveling between Pune and Mumbai. With its convenient timings, efficient route, discounted fares, and easy booking process, it is set to become a preferred choice for many. This initiative not only improves connectivity but also demonstrates MSRTC's commitment to addressing the needs of its passengers and enhancing their travel experience.
