Karnataka is preparing for a spectacular event to honor the River Cauvery, considered the state's lifeline. Inspired by the famous Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the Cauvery Aarti will take place at Bengaluru's Sankey Tank on the evening of March 21. This religious ceremony aims to celebrate the river's significance and create awareness about water conservation. With over 10,000 people expected to attend, including government officials and local families, the event will be a remarkable spiritual and cultural gathering.

Venue and Significance
Sankey Tank, known as Bengaluru's cleanest lake, was carefully chosen as the location for this grand tribute. Initially, authorities considered holding the ceremony near the Gaali Anjaneya Swamy temple. However, due to concerns about space and water cleanliness, Sankey Tank emerged as the ideal choice. The lake has already hosted significant rituals in the past, making it a meaningful place for the Cauvery Aarti.
River Cauvery's Importance
The River Cauvery is not just a sacred water body but also the main water source for nearly 70% of Bengaluru's population. Every day, around 2,225 million liters of water from the river are supplied to the city. Recognizing its crucial role, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has planned a grand procession and special puja as part of the event. The ceremony will be further enriched with priests from Uttar Pradesh leading the rituals, ensuring an authentic spiritual experience.
Highlights of the Cauvery Aarti
The Cauvery Aarti will be a visually stunning event, blending tradition with modern elements. Attendees will witness a laser show, beautiful lighting displays, and a live orchestra enhancing the spiritual atmosphere. Water from Bhagamandala, where the River Cauvery merges with two other rivers, will be distributed as 'prasada' to devotees, adding a sacred touch to the occasion.
Among the notable guests expected to attend are Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar. Their presence will further emphasize the importance of this event and the government's commitment to preserving the river.
Promoting Water Conservation and Cultural Heritage
Beyond being a religious gathering, the Cauvery Aarti aims to spread awareness about the need to protect and conserve Karnataka's most essential water resource. By drawing inspiration from the Ganga Aarti, this event will serve as a reminder of the cultural and environmental responsibilities associated with rivers.
As the Cauvery Aarti at Sankey Tank approaches, it promises to be a breathtaking celebration of Karnataka's rich traditions and a call to safeguard nature's invaluable gifts. This spiritual and environmental initiative is expected to leave a lasting impact on all who witness it.
