Bengaluru is going to face planned power supply disruptions for about 17 days starting from 3 January. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) are scheduling these cuts because they need to do important maintenance and repair work on the city's electrical system, especially around

the EPIP substation area. This substation feeds power to many parts of the city, including major IT hubs, so the disruption will affect people living and working in those areas.
Why is the Power Cut Essential?
The power cuts won't be a single long blackout. Instead, they will be intermittent, turning on and off at set times each day, for about two weeks or more. This maintenance aims to keep the power grid safer and more reliable in the future, but for now, it means residents and businesses will have to plan for electricity outages during the scheduled periods.
These disruptions are part of broader efforts by BESCOM and KPTCL to fix old equipment, prevent unexpected failures, and strengthen the city's power distribution system. During such maintenance work, electricity may be switched off regularly in different zones to allow technicians to work safely and upgrade electrical lines or transformers.
Frequent Power Disruptions
Even in recent weeks before this announcement, Bengaluru has seen frequent power interruptions in many neighbourhoods because of ongoing maintenance work. Reports show outages in places like Nagarabhavi, Rajajinagar, JP Nagar, Whitefield, and Byadarahalli, lasting for several hours at a time.
Advisory for Residents
As Bengaluru is a major tech city with several IT offices and businesses, these power interruptions may affect workplaces, homes, and daily routines. Residents are advised to check the scheduled outage timings, prepare backup power options if needed, and plan activities around the outage windows to reduce inconvenience.
