In a historic move, the Markazi Eidgah in Kanpur will host two congregational Eid prayers on Eid ul Fitr 2024, a decision made by the Markazi Eidgah Committee in response to the ban on offering Namaz outside the Eidgah premises or mosques in Uttar Pradesh. The committee aims to accommodate the large number of devotees and prevent issues of overcrowding during the Eid prayers.

The decision comes ahead of Eid ul Fitr 2024, which is expected to be celebrated on either April 10 or 11, depending on the sighting of the moon. Traditionally, the majority of worshippers in Kanpur gather at the Markazi Eidgah for Eid prayers, making it the center for celebrations for decades.
The first congregational Eid prayer is scheduled for 8 am, followed by a second congregation at 9:30 am, ensuring that all worshippers have the opportunity to pray within the Eidgah premises on the day of Eid ul Fitr 2024. Mutawalli Ayaz Alam Zafar announced that Maulana Shakeel will lead the first prayer, while Hafiz Subhanilahi Mujadidi will lead the second.
Last year, legal action was taken against individuals praying on the road, leading to the current resolution to hold prayers twice. The new arrangement aims to ensure that everyone can offer prayers inside the Eidgah, with the second congregation providing an option for those who miss the first.
Meanwhile, preparations for Eid ul Fitr 2024 are underway across Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country. Muslims have started arranging Eidgahs and mosques to welcome worshippers on the holy day, reflecting the spirit of communal harmony and devotion.
