After heavy snowfall blocked several roads in East Sikkim, new travel restrictions have been put in place to keep travellers safe. Authorities have decided to allow travel permits only up to Changu Lake on the JN Road and up to Zuluk on the RN Road. These steps are part of a bigger plan to clear the blocked roads and make sure that everyone travelling in these areas stays safe.

Travel Restrictions and Road Clearing Efforts
The heavy snowfall made travelling in East Sikkim difficult and dangerous. To manage the situation, officials introduced limits on where tourists can travel. Clearing the blocked routes has become a priority, and efforts are being made to reopen roads safely for visitors and local people.
Successful Evacuation of Stranded Tourists
Because of landslides caused by the snow, many tourists were stranded in Lachung. The district administration of Mangan, local authorities, and community groups worked together to help them. Their quick and united effort made it possible to evacuate the stranded tourists safely. This showed how different groups can come together during a crisis to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable.
Role of Different Organisations
Several organisations played important roles in managing the challenges after the snowfall and landslides. The Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS) took charge of organising logistics. The General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), along with A.K. Builders and SUL, worked hard to clear debris and restore the roads. The Driver Association of Chungthang helped by providing safe transport for the tourists. Their joint efforts made the evacuation smooth and fast.
Roads Reopened for Light Vehicles
Thanks to the Border Road Organisation (BRO) under Project Swastik, the road to Lachung was reopened for one-way traffic. Light vehicles were able to travel safely, allowing tourists to be moved to Mangan. Arrangements were also made in Mangan for the tourists to stay comfortably. These quick actions show how important it is to be ready and respond quickly during natural disasters.
Tourists Thank the Rescuers
The tourists who had been stranded for two days were very grateful for the help they received. They thanked the authorities, the local community, and all the groups that helped them during this difficult time. Their safe evacuation was made possible by the hard work and coordination of many people, including the district collector of Mangan and the SDPO of Chungthang.
The snowfall and landslides in East Sikkim showed how natural disasters can suddenly disrupt travel. But the quick, joint response of many groups proved the region's strength and preparedness. The travel restrictions and the successful evacuation show a careful and caring approach to crisis management, ensuring the safety of both locals and tourists.
