Dubai is about to reach another proud moment in its public transport story. The city will soon be home to the world's tallest metro station, standing 74 metres high. This new station will be part of the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum recently laid the foundation stone and also approved the design for this special station, which Emaar Properties will build.

A design that reflects the city's spirit
The station will be called Emaar Properties Station and is being designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the same firm that created the Burj Khalifa. The design is inspired by a "crossing gateway," which fits perfectly with Dubai's modern style and big dreams for the future.
But this station is not only about being the tallest. It's going to be smart, beautiful, and built with the environment in mind. It will cover an area of around 11,000 square metres and will be able to handle up to 160,000 people each day. By the year 2040, it's expected that more than 70,000 people will use it daily.
Inside, the station will look grand and feel welcoming. Materials like Jura limestone and bronze metal will be used, along with glass ceilings that let in natural sunlight. These choices will help create a warm and open space for travellers.
The materials are not just good-looking but also strong and long-lasting. They have been carefully selected to suit Dubai's climate and to reduce environmental impact. This shows that the station is designed to last for years while being kind to nature.
Dubai's metro network keeps growing
The new Blue Line will add even more strength to Dubai's metro system. Once it's ready, the full metro network will stretch across 131 kilometres, with 78 stations and 168 trains running. Since the start of Dubai Metro in 2009, more than 2.5 billion people have used it. In 2024 alone, about 900,000 people rode the metro every day.
When Dubai Metro first launched, it had just 10 stations and 16 trains. Now, the city is planning to expand that to 78 stations and 168 trains by 2029. This will help ease traffic and make everyday travel simpler for everyone.
Emaar Properties will also have the naming rights for this station for ten years, starting from 2029. More stations on the Blue Line may also be named soon as part of this plan. This shows how businesses like Emaar are becoming part of Dubai's big future.
