The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that it will run 40 extra train trips every weekday across Delhi-NCR as part of Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). This step is being taken to encourage more people to use the metro instead of private vehicles, helping

to reduce pollution and improve the city's worsening air quality.
Delhi Metro Trips
A senior DMRC official stated that the move aims to make public transport more convenient and reliable for daily commuters. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar has directed the operations team to add extra trips across several metro corridors to increase passenger capacity during weekdays. With these changes, the total number of metro trips across Delhi's network will rise from 4,342 to 4,382 per day. These additional services will be spread over seven out of the nine metro lines, ensuring smoother and faster travel for passengers, especially during rush hours. Officials also mentioned that if Stage 3 of the GRAP is implemented later due to worsening pollution levels, the metro will add 20 more trips, taking the total increase to 60 additional trips per day.
Delhi Metro's Frequency
The decision aligns with Delhi's ongoing efforts to curb vehicle emissions and reduce the number of cars on the road. Authorities hope that improved metro frequency will encourage more commuters to switch from private vehicles to public transport, thereby playing a part in combating air pollution. Moreover, this initiative reflects DMRC's commitment to supporting the government's air quality action plan while ensuring that citizens have a comfortable, quick, and eco-friendly travel option during a time when pollution levels continue to rise across Delhi-NCR.
