Heavy rainfall disrupted normal life across Delhi on Tuesday morning, causing severe waterlogging, traffic jams and flooding in several parts of the city. Many roads were submerged, and busy markets were knee-deep in water, making it difficult for people to travel. Several areas, including Connaught Place, Janpath, Lutyens' Delhi, Bharat

Mandapam Road, Barakhamba Road, Mathura Road near ITO, Kalindi Kunj and other low-lying locations, were badly affected by continuous rainfall.
Delhi Rains Caused Havoc
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning throughout the day. Tuesday turned out to be the rainiest day of the year so far and the coldest day recorded in July in the last three years.
Civic agencies received several complaints due to the heavy rain. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said its central control room received 36 complaints between 2 pm and 6 pm. These included 20 complaints of waterlogging and 16 reports of fallen trees. The Public Works Department (PWD) received around 60 complaints related to waterlogging, with officials saying that most of the issues were cleared within an hour.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) also received 38 rain-related complaints, including 19 cases of waterlogging. Areas such as Gole Market, Shahjahan Road, Krishna Menon Marg, Golf Links, Janpath, Connaught Place, Lodhi Colony, Sarojini Nagar, South Avenue and INA were among the worst affected.
Delhi Weather Records
According to the IMD, Pusa recorded the highest rainfall between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm at 80 mm, followed by Janakpuri at 72 mm and Lodhi Road at 63.4 mm. Jafarpur received only 8 mm of rain, while Najafgarh recorded no rainfall during the same period. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 25.5 degrees Celsius, which was 1.8 degrees below normal.
Delhi Yellow Alert on Wednesday
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday and predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may remain close to 23 degrees Celsius.
