After two days of heavy rainfall, Delhi is expected to experience mostly dry weather over the coming week. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no forecast of significant rainfall from Sunday to Thursday. Only a brief spell of very light to light rain is likely on Saturday morning or forenoon.

Delhi's Weather Records
On Friday, the city received only light rainfall during the early hours, with the Safdarjung weather station recording 1.2 mm of rain. This was much lower than the heavy showers witnessed on Wednesday and Thursday, when several parts of Delhi received over 100 mm of rainfall. Safdarjung alone recorded 106.2 mm of rain during the two days.
Delhi Weather Alert on Saturday
The IMD has forecast that after Saturday's rainfall, the maximum temperature will gradually rise. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 37°C and 39°C from Sunday until Thursday.
Reason behind Weather Change
Weather experts said the change in weather is due to the monsoon trough shifting towards the foothills of the Himalayas. This shift has reduced rainfall activity over Delhi, bringing a temporary break in the monsoon. Private weather agency Skymet said the low-pressure system that caused the recent heavy rainfall has weakened after moving from northwest Madhya Pradesh to central Uttar Pradesh. As it continues moving towards the Himalayan foothills, the chances of widespread rain in Delhi have reduced further.
Hot & Humid Weather Ahead
A monsoon break is a normal phase when rainfall temporarily decreases, cloud cover reduces, and sunshine increases. During this period, only isolated light showers may occur, but the possibility remains low.
With less rainfall, humidity is expected to stay high, making the weather hot and uncomfortable. Warm days, bright sunshine, and humid evenings are likely over the next few days. Experts said the dry spell is temporary, and rainfall is expected to return once the monsoon system becomes active again. Until then, residents should be prepared for hot and humid conditions across Delhi and nearby areas.
