Delhi Under Orange Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi, warning that heavy rainfall is likely to continue throughout the day. Some parts of Delhi-NCR remain under a Red Alert due to the possibility of extremely heavy rain. Continuous showers led to waterlogging in several areas, including New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka, and many other parts of the capital, resulting in traffic congestion and delays.

According to the IMD, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on July 9. The maximum temperature is expected to stay around 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to remain close to 26 degrees Celsius, keeping the weather cool and pleasant compared to the past few days.

Delhi NCR Weather Records

At around 2:30 am, Delhi recorded a temperature of 25.8 degrees Celsius with calm wind conditions. According to weather forecasting agency Skymet Weather, a low-pressure area embedded within the monsoon trough is moving north of Delhi. The western and southwestern parts of this weather system are expected to affect Delhi-NCR throughout the day, leading to the development of strong rain-bearing clouds and repeated spells of heavy rainfall.

Skymet has predicted that East Delhi, East NCR, Ghaziabad, Noida, Baghpat, and Meerut may receive between 180 mm and 250 mm of rainfall over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, Central Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, and nearby areas are expected to receive comparatively lower rainfall of around 80 mm to 150 mm.

The weather agency has also warned that widespread waterlogging is likely across many parts of the region and advised people to plan their travel carefully and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement wherever possible.
