Delhi witnessed its heaviest spell of rain this year on Thursday, making it the wettest July day in the last three years. The heavy rainfall brought relief from the heat, with the maximum temperature dropping below 30 degrees Celsius. Several areas across Delhi-NCR received very heavy rain, causing waterlogging, traffic congestion and travel delays during the busy morning hours.

Delhi Rain Alert
The IMD has forecast that rain is likely to continue until Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued for Friday, with light to moderate rain expected at many places along with isolated thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi-NCR, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in several parts of the national capital. The weather department has cautioned that the rain may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to normal life.
Moreover, a Red Alert has been issued for a few areas of Delhi-NCR where extremely heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging are expected. The IMD has also forecast more rain on July 10, with thunderstorms and intense showers likely to continue throughout the day. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and follow weather updates issued by the authorities.
Schools & Colleges to remain Open on 10 July
Despite heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR, schools and colleges will remain open on July 10, 2026, as there has been no official announcement of a holiday. So far, neither the Delhi Government nor the Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued any notification ordering the closure of educational institutions. Unless individual schools announce otherwise, classes are expected to continue as scheduled.
Advisory for Students & Parents
However, parents and students are advised to stay in touch with their respective schools for any updates, especially if heavy rain continues overnight or weather conditions worsen. Some schools may issue their own advisories depending on the local situation.
