The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of Delhi-NCR after heavy showers hit several areas of the national capital on Thursday. The rain brought much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather that had affected the city over the past few

days. According to the weather department, Delhi is expected to have cloudy skies, light to moderate rain, and strong surface winds during the day.
Delhi Rain Alert
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature between 33°C and 34.8°C on Wednesday, much lower than that of the recent heatwave. The IMD expects the maximum temperature on Thursday to remain between 32°C and 34°C, with light to moderate rainfall and strong winds helping to keep the weather pleasant.
Red Alert in Several Parts of the Country
The IMD has also issued a red alert for the Konkan region, including Goa and South Gujarat, where extremely heavy rainfall is expected. An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, with forecasts of heavy rain at some places. The weather department warned that low-lying areas in the city could face waterlogging due to continuous rainfall.
Southwest Monsoon to Hit North India
On Wednesday, the Senior IMD scientist Naresh Yadav said that weather conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over the next two days. The monsoon is expected to move into more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and some areas of Rajasthan. He added that Konkan, Goa, and South Gujarat are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall over the next four to five days, which is why a red alert has been issued. He also said that Odisha and parts of central India are expected to receive very heavy rainfall during the same period.
