The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the southwest monsoon is likely to move into several parts of north India over the next five to six days and is expected to bring relief to people who have been facing intense heat and humid weather across the region.

Delhi Weather Records
Delhi continued to experience very hot and humid weather due to the delay in the arrival of the monsoon. The city recorded its warmest morning in the last two years. The minimum temperature was 31.1 degrees Celsius, which was 3.2 degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature reached 41.8 degrees Celsius. The IMD said the last time Delhi recorded a higher minimum temperature was on June 14, 2024, when it was 33.3 degrees Celsius.
Delhi Rain Alert for Monday
The weather office also reported heatwave conditions in Delhi, with the "feels-like" temperature reaching around 50.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday evening. Humidity remained high at 44 percent. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and rain for Monday, which could provide some relief.
Reason behind Delhi's Extreme Weather Conditions
Private weather agency Skymet said the delayed monsoon, along with the meeting of dry winds from Pakistan and moisture-filled winds from the Arabian Sea, has kept temperatures and humidity unusually high. These weather conditions have caused clouds to form late in the day, after peak temperatures are reached, increasing discomfort.
Skymet Vice President Mahesh Palawat said the monsoon is likely to reach east Uttar Pradesh by June 30 or July 1, Uttarakhand by July 2 or 3, and Delhi around July 4 if weather conditions remain favourable. He also said a small cyclonic circulation may develop in the coming days, bringing isolated rainfall to several areas.
