are now favourable for the monsoon to move further into northwest India. Rainfall is expected to increase from July 2, bringing cooler temperatures, thunderstorms, and welcome relief from the harsh summer heat.

Delhi Rain Alert

In recent days, Delhi-NCR has experienced extremely hot and humid weather. Daytime temperatures have remained between 42°C and 43°C, while night temperatures have stayed between 29°C and 31°C, around 5°C higher than normal. Although some areas received light rain, it was not enough to reduce the humidity or provide much comfort. According to the IMD, temperatures are expected to fall gradually over the next few days. Maximum temperatures may come down to 38°C-40°C on June 30, 36°C-38°C on July 1, and further drop to 32°C-34°C on July 2 and July 3. During the first week of July, temperatures are likely to remain below normal, giving residents much-needed relief from the heatwave.

People living in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad can expect cooler weather, fresher air and better conditions once the monsoon becomes active across the National Capital Region.

Delay in Monsoon

The southwest monsoon usually reaches Delhi around June 27, but it has been delayed this year. Similar delays have occurred in recent years. It arrived on June 29 in 2025, June 28 in 2024, and June 30 in 2022, while the biggest delay was in 2021 when it reached Delhi on July 13.

The IMD said the monsoon has already covered Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, parts of Uttar Pradesh, most of Uttarakhand, and some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. Heavy rainfall in eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Terai region has already lowered temperatures by about 5°C to 7°C over the past two days.
