Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that it will run 24 extra metro train trips every Monday starting from May 18, 2026. Moreover, six additional trains will be added across different metro lines to handle the expected rise in passenger numbers. The decision came after Rekha Gupta encouraged government

employees to follow "Metro Mondays" and use public transport to help save fuel and reduce traffic.
Delhi Metro Trains
According to DMRC, one extra train will run on the Red, Yellow, Blue, and Pink Lines, while two extra trains will operate on the Violet Line. These trains together will complete 24 additional trips every Monday, depending on the number of passengers travelling during the day.
Reason Behind Delhi Metro's Initiative
DMRC officials said the initiative is part of efforts to encourage more people to use the metro while improving passenger convenience, safety, and accessibility. The metro corporation will closely monitor crowd levels and may run more trips or deploy additional staff if required. To manage the extra rush, DMRC will also deploy more security personnel and open extra ticket counters at stations. Spare baggage scanners and metal detectors will also be used to reduce waiting time and make passenger movement smoother during peak hours.
Extra staff may also be posted at interchange stations and locations connected to bus terminals and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). DMRC said it will also focus on improving last-mile connectivity for passengers.
Hydrogen-powered Bus Services
Recently, hydrogen-powered bus services were started from the Central Secretariat to improve transport connectivity to nearby offices. The Delhi Transport Corporation currently operates around 1,500 Devi buses, which provide last-mile connectivity at 52 metro stations. Parking facilities are also available at 126 metro stations.
Advisory for Passengers
Passengers have been advised to use the Metro Sarthi app for easier travel. Digital ticket options such as QR tickets, National Common Mobility Card, WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon, IRCTC, and ONDC integrations are also available for commuters.
