Travel from Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut's Modipuram will soon take just 45 minutes. The final phase of India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is almost complete and is expected to be ready by the end of June. This high-speed travel option will make daily commuting easier and quicker for thousands of people.

A Fast-Developing Corridor
The 82-kilometre RRTS corridor, called the Namo Bharat corridor, is being developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). So far, 55 kilometres of the corridor with 11 stations is already operational. The remaining 27-kilometre stretch is under construction and progressing fast. An extra 2-kilometre extension from Sarai Kale Khan to Jangpura is also being built.
Step-by-Step Expansion
The first part of the corridor-a 17-kilometre priority section-was opened on October 21, 2023. The stretch between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi was added on January 5, further improving regional travel. These openings have helped more and more people experience faster and more comfortable travel.
High Acceptance and Useful Partnerships
Since the launch of Namo Bharat trains, over one crore people have travelled using the service. To make travel easier, NCRTC has joined hands with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and other mobility service providers for smooth last-mile connectivity. Some operators are even offering discounts to Namo Bharat train users.
Affordable and Comfortable Travel
Namo Bharat trains have affordable fares. A ride from New Ashok Nagar (Delhi) to Meerut South costs Rs 150 in standard class and Rs 225 in premium class. From Anand Vihar to Meerut South, the fare is Rs 130 in standard class and Rs 195 in premium class. Currently, trial runs are taking place on a 4.5-kilometre elevated section from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 23-kilometre stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram.
Stations Ready for Commuters
The Sarai Kale Khan station is almost ready. It will have 12 escalators, four lifts, and Platform Screen Doors (PSDs). Five entry and exit points will make it easy for people to access the station.
In Meerut, the final part of the corridor will include three new stations: Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram. Shatabdi Nagar is an elevated station with all major systems installed. Begumpul is underground and located in a busy market area, and will serve both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro trains. Modipuram station is on the national highway and includes a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) for safety.
Meerut Metro Shares the Track
The 23-kilometre Meerut Metro has also begun trial runs. It will use the same tracks as Namo Bharat trains, making it the first time in India that a metro and high-speed train share the same infrastructure. The metro will have 13 stations, including three underground ones.
Once fully open, the RRTS corridor will change how people travel between Delhi and Meerut, offering a quicker, more comfortable, and modern transport option.
