NCRTC Unveils Shift in Cyber City RRTS Station Entrance to Ease Traffic Congestion

After a year of discussions and delays, the dispute over the location of the Cyber City Metro station is close to being resolved. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has agreed to shift the entrance of its proposed Cyber City RRTS station, although the station itself will remain at

the same spot on HSIIDC land near Shankar Chowk, as mentioned in its Detailed Project Report (DPR). Only the direction of the entry and exit points will be changed.

Building of the Rapid Rail System

NCRTC is building the rapid rail system, while GMRL is responsible for the Gurgaon Metro. The RRTS station is planned on HSIIDC land in Sector 18, whereas GMRL's Cyber City Metro station will be located across the road next to the Rapid Metro station under Phase 2 of the Gurgaon Metro project. According to a senior GMRL official, this agreement finally gives them the clarity needed to move ahead. With NCRTC agreeing to shift the station entrance away from the busy Shankar Chowk junction, GMRL can now decide the terminal station location and finalise the alignment. NCRTC will also share a detailed station layout with HSIIDC.

In a meeting led by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, NCRTC proposed keeping the station in its original DPR-approved location but shifting its access points toward the Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) side, with an additional entrance planned near Cyber City and Cyber Hub. This redesign is expected to reduce pedestrian crowding at Shankar Chowk and address earlier concerns about congestion.

HSIIDC had earlier objected, saying that placing three major transit stations-RRTS, Gurgaon Metro, and Rapid Metro so close together would worsen traffic during peak hours. However, NCRTC could not shift the station due to alignment constraints. The dispute had slowed down the Phase 2 Metro planning process.

Delhi-Gurgaon-Bawal RRTS Corridor

Meanwhile, the 93-km Delhi-Gurgaon-Bawal RRTS corridor, costing around ₹32,000 crore, has received approval from the Public Investment Board and is awaiting final clearance from the Union Cabinet. The Chief Secretary has also asked NHAI to fast-track the removal of obstacles at Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bharadwaj Chowk so that pending construction work can continue.
