Closure Dates For Kaziranga And Orang Parks Mark End Of Tourist Season

Kaziranga and Orang National Parks in Assam will close for tourists starting mid-May 2024-25, marking the end of the tourist season. The closures facilitate undisturbed animal breeding and ensure visitor safety.

The famous Kaziranga National Park and Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam are set to close for tourists this month, signaling the end of the tourist season. The Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division recently issued a press release to announce these closures. Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve will cease operations for the tourist season 2024-25 starting from May 15, including both Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari. Similarly, Kaziranga National Park has stopped Elephant Safari from May 1, with Jeep Safari following suit from May 16.

Typically, Assam's national parks and sanctuaries welcome tourists from October and conclude their services by mid-May each year. This practice is common across India's national parks and sanctuaries, closing from the mid-summer until just before the monsoon begins. The primary reason behind this seasonal closure is to facilitate undisturbed breeding among wild animals, as this period marks their breeding season, during which animals can become more aggressive. Thus, to ensure the safety of both wildlife and visitors, authorities decide to temporarily shut down access to these parks.

During the 2023-24 tourist season, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve witnessed a record-breaking visitor count of 3,27,493, comprising 3,13,574 Indian nationals and 13,919 foreign tourists. Known especially for its one-horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga is a beloved destination for families and children. This year, an uptick in tourist numbers was observed not only in East Assam Wildlife Division but also in Vishwanath and Navagaon Wildlife Divisions, contributing to the region's tourism growth.

The allure of jungle safaris and elephant rides draws a significant number of tourists post-monsoon in October. With just 10 days left before the closure of Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve for this season, it's the perfect time for those who haven't yet visited to plan a quick trip. Visitors can enjoy the unique experiences of elephant rides and jeep safaris with their families in these enchanting forests.
