Southern Railway has announced that the Chennai Egmore-Velankanni-Chennai Egmore Daily Express will soon return to its original terminal at Chennai Egmore. At present, the train starts and ends its journey at Tambaram, but this temporary arrangement will be withdrawn.

Chennai-Velankanni Daily Express Train
According to a press release issued by the Tiruchi Railway Division, Train No. 16176 Velankanni-Chennai Egmore Express will once again terminate at Chennai Egmore from June 30, 2026. Similarly, Train No. 16175 Chennai Egmore-Velankanni Express will start its journey from Chennai Egmore instead of Tambaram from July 1, 2026.
Chennai-Velankanni Daily Express Train with Revised Timings
With the revised schedule, Train No. 16175 will leave Chennai Egmore at 9:00 PM and reach Tambaram at 9:28 PM. After a brief halt, it will depart from Tambaram at 9:30 PM and continue its journey to Velankanni. There will be no change in the timings between Tambaram and Velankanni, so passengers boarding at stations beyond Tambaram will not be affected.
For the return journey, Train No. 16176 will arrive at Tambaram at 4:08 AM and leave at 4:10 AM. It will then continue to Chennai Egmore, where it is scheduled to arrive at 5:15 AM. The timetable between Velankanni and Tambaram will also remain unchanged.
How will this Change Benefit Passengers?
The restoration of Chennai Egmore as the train's original terminal will benefit passengers travelling to and from central Chennai, as they will no longer have to travel separately to Tambaram to board or leave the train.
Southern Railway has advised passengers of the revised origin and train destination while planning their journey. Except for the extension between Chennai Egmore and Tambaram, the train's schedule and timings on the rest of the route will remain the same. This change is expected to make travel more convenient for regular passengers using the Chennai Egmore-Velankanni daily express service.
