Several parts of Chennai will experience a planned power outage on Wednesday, December 17, as announced by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Generating and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). The power cut will last for five hours, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and is being carried out to allow routine maintenance and

infrastructure improvement work.
According to TANGEDCO, the temporary shutdown is necessary to ensure better electricity supply and to carry out essential upgrades in key areas. The affected localities include T Nagar, Red Hills, and Poonamallee, along with surrounding neighbourhoods.
List of Affected Areas in Chennai
• In T Nagar, many prominent roads and streets will be impacted, including Thyagaraya Road, GN Chetty Road, Usman Road, North and South Boag Road, Panagal Park area, Burkit Road, Dr Nair Road, Bazullah Street, and several residential streets nearby. Commercial areas and residential pockets in this locality will also be without power during the scheduled hours.
• In the Red Hills region, areas such as Sothuperumbedu, Karanodai, Athur, Sholavaram, Gnayeru, Nallur, Orakkadu, Budur, Angadu, and Arumanthai will face the outage.
• Similarly, parts of Poonamallee, including Queen Victoria Road, Ambal Nagar, Saravana Nagar, Srinivasa Nagar, Balaraman Nagar, Sundhar Nagar, Sumithra Nagar, Bhakthavachalam Nagar, ASR City SSVK, and nearby residential areas will remain without electricity during the maintenance period.
Advisory For Residents
TANGEDCO has advised residents to take necessary precautions to avoid inconvenience. People are encouraged to charge mobile phones and electronic devices in advance, keep flashlights or candles ready, and avoid using heavy electrical appliances during the outage. Residents should also stay updated through local news or official announcements for any changes in power restoration timing. In case of urgent electrical issues, complaints can be reported to TANGEDCO once the power supply is restored.
