The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which has remained constant, is expected to strengthen and potentially turn into a depression. This weather pattern is projected to move towards the north of Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and the neighboring south Andhra Pradesh coasts, in the coming days. According to a statement released by the IMD on the social media platform 'X', this development could lead to further heavy rainfall across the area.
To address the potential challenges posed by the heavy rains, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened a review meeting to assess the readiness of the state's response mechanisms. The civic body has been on high alert, deploying a vast array of emergency equipment to tackle the situation effectively. This includes 990 pumps, 57 tractors with pump sets, and 36 mechanised boats, ready to be mobilized in response to any flooding.

With 46 metric tonnes of bleaching powder and phenyl in stock, the civic body is well-prepared to carry out extensive sanitation efforts to prevent waterborne diseases. Furthermore, 169 fully equipped relief centers have been set up and are ready to be activated based on the evolving situation. These centers will provide shelter and essential services to those displaced or severely affected by the rains.
