Residents in parts of Chennai should prepare for a scheduled five-hour power outage on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) carries out routine maintenance work. The planned shutdown will affect several localities in the Poonamallee distribution area between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.
According to the official maintenance schedule, electricity supply will remain suspended during the maintenance window and may be restored earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule.

Maintenance Work Behind the Shutdown

Officials have stated that electricity supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed, and in many cases, restoration may happen before the scheduled end time if work finishes early.
Recent Power Disruptions in Chennai
The scheduled maintenance comes shortly after several parts of Chennai experienced power supply disruptions due to technical faults in the electricity distribution network. Localities including Tiruvottiyur and Tambaram witnessed prolonged outages earlier this week following feeder failures and cable faults, prompting TNPDCL to undertake maintenance and strengthening works in different parts of the city.
Saturday's shutdown, however, is a planned maintenance exercise and not an emergency outage.

People living in the affected areas should charge essential electronic devices in advance and make necessary arrangements for appliances that depend on uninterrupted electricity, such as water pumps and lifts. Those working from home or running commercial establishments may also want to plan their schedules around the outage.
