Chennai Opens New Flyover and Foot Overbridge at Tidel Park for Smoother Traffic

On Tuesday, Chennai took a big step in improving traffic with the opening of a new 'U'-shaped flyover and a foot overbridge (FOB) at Tidel Park junction on Rajiv Gandhi Salai. The project was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. These new structures will help make travel easier for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Chennai Opens New Flyover

A Flyover to Reduce Traffic Congestion

The new flyover is 510 meters long and 8.5 meters wide. It is a unidirectional, two-lane road that cost Rs 27.5 crore to build. This flyover is designed to allow vehicles coming from ECR to reach Madhya Kailash without stopping at a signal for a right turn. This will help in reducing waiting time and making traffic flow smoother.

An additional part of the flyover extends to CSIR Road in Taramani. This section is expected to help people traveling to Taramani and Perungudi from Thiruvanmiyur, where traffic congestion is a common problem. With this, daily commuters will have an easier and faster journey.

A New Foot Overbridge for Pedestrian Safety

Along with the flyover, a new foot overbridge (FOB) has been built. This bridge is 155 meters long and 5.5 meters wide, and it cost Rs 11.3 crore to construct. It is connected to the existing FOB over OMR, making it easier for people to cross the road. The bridge also has escalators, helping pedestrians, especially those going to the MRTS station, Tidel Park, and IT companies nearby.

This foot overbridge is expected to improve safety by giving people a secure way to cross the busy roads.

Part of a Bigger Plan

This is not the first time such a flyover has been built in Chennai. Two years ago, the first 'U'-shaped flyover at Indira Nagar Junction was completed. It helps vehicles move smoothly from SRP Tools to Thiruvanmiyur Bus Stand.

The government plans to make more improvements to traffic signals near the new flyover and foot overbridge. Officials say these changes will help traffic flow even better.

The new flyover and foot overbridge are important steps toward making Chennai's roads safer and less crowded. With better transport planning, people can expect easier and faster commutes. The city continues to grow, and projects like this will help meet the needs of its people. The government's focus on better infrastructure shows its commitment to improving the quality of life in Chennai.
