For the past several months, road conditions near the Chennai Metro Rail construction site at Indira Nagar in Adyar have become very poor, causing trouble for residents and daily commuters. The work is part of Chennai Metro Rail's Phase II project, under which stations are being built across underground and

elevated corridors in different parts of the city.
Chennai Metro Phase II Project Work
As part of Corridor 3, which will connect Madhavaram and SIPCOT through Adyar, construction work for a metro station is currently taking place near the Indira Nagar Water Tank. Due to this ongoing work, roads in the area have been badly damaged. Residents say the condition of Indira Nagar Second Avenue and a section of Third Avenue near the signal has worsened over the last few months. The damaged roads have made travel uncomfortable for motorists and difficult for pedestrians as well.
Challenges of Commuters
L.J. Singaravelan, president of the Adyar Kasturba Nagar-South Residents' Welfare Association, said commuters face problems while taking a right turn from First Avenue to Second Avenue near the Indira Nagar Water Tank signal. According to him, the available road space has reduced because of the metro station construction. He added that the roads have become rough and uneven, making it difficult for vehicles to move smoothly.
Another resident, Krishnakumar, said he regularly uses these roads while travelling towards Velachery or Sardar Patel Road. He questioned why the roads were not being repaired regularly, despite the authorities knowing that construction work had damaged them. He also pointed out that walking on these roads has become difficult for residents.
Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) said they are aware of the issue and have already informed the contractor about the poor road condition. They assured residents that the damaged roads around the construction site would be repaired and relaid as soon as possible.
